Clubhouse is a platform that combines the community aspect of social media platforms along with an audio-only experience. Although this app is not readily available to everyone, it has the potential of being a great app in the near future.

What is Clubhouse?

Clubhouse is an app that was created to provide people with a chance to communicate with each other but only through audio. Initially launched in India, this app has reached most parts of the world. It is similar to discord except it doesn’t have any of the texting features. Originally designed to serve IOS users, it has only recently become available to Android users although there is a catch. The app has a degree of exclusivity that sets a barrier to entry for any enthusiastic social media geek.

You can only join if you have an invite text that you can get from users of the platform. As it is still in its infancy, it has experienced overloaded servers which can increase in the future as the app gets more populated. It plans to add club creation and payments to take the app further. The app doesn’t record audio chats, so everything is live. Assuming they do remove this invite-only policy this app has the potential to pop off, after all, apps like Spotify have a level of convenience and efficiency that is hard to combat.

So, Why should I use it?

Because there are 10 million users already on it. Not that having more users is an advertisable property, but it is. Having a group chatroom where you can communicate with a couple of friends, colleagues can be very helpful or get the opinion of a thousand people whatever suits you. We have already seen the efficiency of Zoom when it came to the pandemic. But now you don’t need to set up your background to have a chat.

The ability to join random clubs and learn new things, get to know interesting people is always a great thing to have. Content moderation is a valid issue as it is harder to control where live conversations go. A reporting feature could be good but it has to be really complicated to deliver results. It has also promised that it is going to integrate with Twitter and Instagram. This will not only let you follow speakers on the app itself but also on other social media platforms. You can keep up with future club meetings, so you don’t miss out on an interesting convo.
